Editorial

Bavarian Studies in History and Culture is an online portal of the Commission for Bavarian History at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities. It presents English translations of selected academic articles, primarily taken from the commission’s three journals: the Zeitschrift für bayerische Landesgeschichte, the Bayerisches Jahrbuch für Volkskunde, and the Bayerische Vorgeschichtsblätter. In addition, the portal contains original scholarship and translations of shorter publications in cooperation with the relevant editorial staff of these journals.

With the publication of the Bavarian Studies in History and Culture portal, the Commission for Bavarian History commits itself to an interdisciplinary study of Bavarian history and Bavaria’s role in European networks over the course of multiple historical epochs. The commission consists of approximately sixty elected members, who work at universities and other academic institutions in Bavaria, other states within Germany, and neighboring European countries.
